YEN KHANH COUNTRYSIDE EXPERIENCE – NINH BINH
(9:00 AM – 3:30 PM)

Dear travellers, If you are looking for a real countryside experience in Ninh Binh, far away from the tourist crowds, this day trip to Yen Khanh district will be a perfect choice. Located about 30 km (around 30 minutes’ drive) from Tam Coc, Yen Khanh offers you the chance to explore the quiet charm of the Red River Delta, where traditions are still alive, and local people welcome you with their genuine smiles.

Upon arrival at Phu Hau village, we will be warmly greeted by our local hosts and take a pleasant walk through the small village paths, discovering daily life scenes and simple beauty along the way. A stop will be made at the local market, where you can observe the lively morning atmosphere as villagers trade fresh produce and household goods. We’ll then visit a manual vermicelli workshop, one of the few families who still maintain this traditional craft — turning rice into fine white noodles by hand, just as in the picture above. You’ll also meet craftsmen weaving baskets from water hyacinths or sedge mats, and see how their skill and patience transform simple materials into everyday objects.

This visit is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the local community, learn about their traditional occupations, and gain a deeper understanding of their cultural heritage. Afterwards, we’ll return to the host’s home for a hands-on cooking experience, preparing “Bánh Chưng” – the traditional sticky rice cake made during the Vietnamese New Year. Our host will guide you carefully through each step: cutting the leaves, layering the ingredients, and tying the cakes. And of course, you’ll get to taste the cakes made by yourself afterwards!

To complete the experience, we’ll enjoy a home-cooked lunch with the host family, featuring authentic Vietnamese dishes such as spring rolls, beef stir-fry with five colors, and other seasonal specialties. It’s a simple yet meaningful moment that captures the warm hospitality and genuine spirit of Vietnam’s countryside.
